Bitwise CIO Matt Hougan’s Top 4 Altcoin Picks for Long-Term Growth

Bitwise Chief Investment Officer Matt Hougan said Bitcoin could reach hundreds of thousands of dollars if more traditional investors allocate part of their portfolios to Bitcoin and gold. He cited rising government debt and concerns about fiat currency purchasing power as factors that could increase demand for these assets.

In an interview, Hougan also identified stablecoins and tokenization as major developments for the crypto market over the next decade.

Bitcoin Could Benefit From Institutional Investment

Hougan said investors holding traditional portfolios of stocks and bonds remain exposed to fiat currency risks. He believes allocating a portion of these portfolios to Bitcoin and gold could help reduce that exposure.

“If that sort of thinking goes mainstream, you could see huge inflows into Bitcoin,” Hougan said, adding that its price could reach the hundreds of thousands of dollars.

He described Bitcoin as the best risk-adjusted investment in crypto, pointing to its potential role as a store of value amid rising government debt and spending.

Hougan Highlights Chainlink and Hyperliquid

Hougan said Bitcoin, Ethereum, Solana, and Chainlink remain key assets for investors seeking exposure to currency debasement and tokenization. He also identified Hyperliquid as a potential addition to this group.

He highlighted Zcash for its focus on privacy and Venice for its AI applications, while noting that these projects are competing for a place among the leading crypto assets.

On Chainlink, Hougan said the protocol’s underlying business remains strong and that improvements to its tokenomics could benefit holders. He identified token buybacks, revenue distribution, lower inflation, and clearer token unlock schedules as important changes.

He expects crypto communities to push projects toward better mechanisms for sharing protocol-generated value with token holders.

Stablecoins and Tokenization Could Drive Crypto Adoption

Hougan identified stablecoins and tokenization as major developments that could shape the crypto industry over the next decade. He also pointed to institutional adoption, regulatory changes, and renewed decentralized finance activity.

“The two mega trends are debasement and the rise of stablecoins and tokenization,” Hougan said.

He argued that these developments should be viewed over several years rather than through short-term price movements. His outlook centers on Bitcoin’s potential role as a store of value and the expansion of blockchain-based financial services through stablecoins and tokenized assets.
